1-½ Ton 6x6 Cargo Truck, TTSW

This 1 ½ ton truck manufactured in about 1924 at Fort Holabird, Maryland, is the forerunner of the standard 2-½ ton truck that was a familiar sight in the military fleet from 1940 until the early 1990s. This TTSW (Truck, Tractor, Six Wheel) was constructed under the supervision of chief engineer Arthur W. Harrington.

It is based primarily on Liberty Standard B components, it offered a more comfortable cab and electric lights. It used a walking beam rear suspension with U-shaped springs at each wheel. Separate drive shafts went to each axle and the rear axles were mounted with dual tires. Pneumatic tires were used all the way around as they helped provide better mobility and a better “ride” for the cargo.
